INTRODUCTION

Gibson's first China flagship store, seen as a complete departure from the traditional and conventional guitar shop, is conceived as a composition of oversized, handcrafted and purposely decadent, leather guitar cabinet cases, inspired by the vintage speaker stacks from rock music’s halcyon days in the 1940-50s. The literal 'plug and play' display stacks are what define the retail and merchandise experience, creating individual spaces and a backdrop to how the store is navigated; the corresponding back-lit graphics act as metaphors for the vertically displayed guitar ranges, such as, bourbon bottles, stage diving, or mushroom clouds.

Commanding the main central room, flanked by two walls of premium guitars is a full size stage for local impromptu performances and at the other end, capturing the spirit of the period, a glass and timber bar/display area, that showcases small articles and various eclectic artefacts that have been personally inspired by Gibson over the years.
