Perched on a cliff in Uluwatu, this 125 room hotel, pays homage to the works of the late tropical architecture of Geoffrey Bawa, both in its form as well as in its planning.

The mass of the hotel is broken down into a series of 7 volumes each topped with a ‘villa in the sky’ that are perched upon a heavily truncated stone base that both, ties the room volumes together and contains the FOH functions of the hotel.

The entire hotel is wrapped around a central landscape of stepped landscaped terraces planted with palm trees that frames as well as, encroaches upon, a large symmetrical but equally asymmetrical dramatic swimming pool.

Both the base and the hotel volumes are deliberately left dark in there stone and terracotta finishes respectively, whilst large openings in the colonnade and the oversized balconies reveal ‘warmer’ finishes of locally sourced woods, which provide a warm counterpart to the ‘coldness’ of the façade.
