KRABI, THAILAND

INTRODUCTION

Set along 200m of pristine beach front, backed by a National Park in Ao-Nang, Krabi, Thailand, the site suggested that we did not build a ‘building’. Instead, we proposed to seamlessly interweave and manipulate the beach zone between land and sea as a series of programmatic sand dune landscapes. These man-made ‘sand-scapes’ were then re-naturalised through the binding qualities of the local flora, to create a new inhabitable environment, where the visitors ‘literally’ inhabit the beach. The tops of the dunes were then ‘thatched’ in tropical grasses that seemingly were ‘washed up on the shore’
