Extending the theme from the Summer Palace, and set against the bleak and harsher backdrop of the Great Wall, the material quality was transformed to reflect its barbarian past. Forged steel replaced bronze, oak replaced the more rarer huali mu, creating an aesthetic that has more in keeping with the towers along the Great Wall.
