This apartment, on the 28th floor, offering astonishing views over Shanghai, had one large problem which as the design developed became more and more apparent,- the view, it was too overbearing! The solution was to create a number of ‘closed’ zones of interiorized space, in-ward looking and contemplative. These zones at odds with the obvious celebration of the view, became ‘odder’, though their form and materiality; the use of woven rattan as structural form- that were both recognizable as being domestic but crafted in slightly out of proportion scales.
